When we have helped design environments to support and enable people as they age to remain in their homes, we feel that we have implemented some of the elements of sustainable design. This Aging-in-Place is a new focus for the interior design and home building fields. Because of The Etagere's experience with designing the interiors of retirement homes and assisted living facilities, we have long emphasized to clients details that would make their homes more comfortable to live in as they physically age.
What we have found true to Aging-in-Place design is that it accomodates all age groups. By understanding the needs associated with an ailment or physical limitation, from that of a child to someone aging, it is possible to create an aesthetically pleasing and ailment-specific living space. Not only is it our goal as interior designers to create beautiful spaces for our clients, but to also enhance the psychological and physical qualities of their lives. |
